990
Discrete Op-Amp:
October 16, 2013:
In January of 2013, manufacturing of the 990 was converted from
through-hole assembly to surface-mount assembly. Many improvements in
components were made. The basic circuit and package dimensions remain
the same, but the name has been modified to "990C+" to signify the
changes. See the 990 data
package for details. The
990 discrete op-amp is the finest op-amp available for audio
applications. If you want superior sound quality, the 990 can provide
it. The 990 is used in the most critical audio applications. Leading
recording studios, remote recording companies, disc and CD/DVD
mastering facilities, and TV and radio stations use the 990 for
superior performance. Several mic preamp products
using the 990 are available from The John Hardy Company.
Attention, Summit Owners:
The 990C+ is the perfect replacement for the Summit SA990 op-amp. You
may find it interesting that for years I sold black-anodized aluminum
potting shells and gold-plated pins to Summit to help them manufacture
their 990 op-amps. When Summit went out of business in 2012, they still
owed me around $2,000. Then Blue Microphones bought the assets of
Summit and hired some of the key people from Summit to work for Blue.
So, Summit was back in business under ownership of Blue, the key Summit
employees were still working, and I am still out $2,000. In December of
2016, JMP Electronics took over as the primary contact for Summit Audio
inquiries. I'm still out $2K. As the saying goes, no good deed goes
unpunished.
Thank you.
